Born To Die

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

When we accepted the Lord Jesus as our Savior, we agreed to allow His Spirit to change us from what we were to what He wants us to be; namely, to become like Him. So, just as He came to sacrifice His life for those who, in many cases, hated Him, we, too, have been commissioned to give our lives to Him for the sake of others.

Now, before you start thinking that I'm talking about us literally giving our lives; the Lord isn't necessarily talking about that. Yes, there are many who WILL make that ultimate sacrifice; but there are also many who aren't called to that. However, He wants us to allow our natural, carnal Adamic nature to be subdued by His Holy Spirit; in essence, a death that will bring life.

You see, He didn't come just as a sacrifice; He also came as an example. Even though He was God, He willingly took upon Himself our humanity; and, having done that, He faced everything in His humanity, depending completely upon the Holy Spirit and communion with the Father. His purpose was so we could see an example of what a true son of God was like; and to let us know that we, too, can attain to what He was in the same way: through complete dependence upon the Holy Spirit and communion with the Father.

But, again, becoming a son is not primarily for our sakes. Just as with Jesus, the Father wants to raise us up for the sake of others. In essence, His desire is for us to allow His Spirit to manifest through us to others, so that He can do what He desires to do in them.

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." (Philippians 2:5 to 8)
